Schloßbrücke and Humboldt Forum.

With its historic railings and eight statues, the Schloßbrücke in Berlin-Mitte is one of Berlin's most beautiful bridges. It was built according to plans designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and is located near the Lustgarten on Museum Island.

The Schloßbrücke, sometimes also written as Schlossbrücke, crosses the western branch of the Spree and was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. However, before the architect was commissioned to build the stone bridge, there was a wooden bridge in the same place. It was mainly used to transport materials during the construction of the Stadtschloss (City Palace). Until the king decided in 1821 that the wooden bridge was too profane for the surrounding magnificent buildings such as the palace.

The commission to build a new stone bridge was awarded to Karl Friedrich Schinkel, then Privy Chief Building Councillor. The architect planned eight groups of marble figures to decorate the bridge, but these could only be realized after his death. They depict the life of a hero from youth to death. When the bridge work was completed, the Schloßbrücke was the largest bridge in Berlin.

The ³§³¦³ó±ô´Çß²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð after the Second World War

During the Second World War, the marble figures were removed for safekeeping. The bridge itself was hardly damaged. After the end of the Second World War, the structure was located in eastern territory and the statues in western occupation territory. After the demolition of the City Palace and the conversion of the square into Marx-Engels-Platz, the bridge was also renamed Marx-Engels-Brücke. The Schloßbrücke got its name back on October 3, 1991, the first anniversary of reunification. The marble figures were returned to their original places as early as the mid-1980s.
