Thousands of students started the new semester in Berlin at the beginning of this week. Around 34,300 students are enrolled at Humboldt University (HU) this summer semester, including just over 5,000 international students, according to a university spokeswoman. In total, there are just under 1,350 first semester students.
As a rule, most degree courses only accept first-semester students in the winter semester. According to a spokesperson, there are therefore only just under 1,080 first-time and newly enrolled students at Freie Universität (FU). A total of around 32,940 students are enrolled, of which around 6,900 are international students. The figures are not yet final.
At the FU - as at some other universities - there is a mentoring program for newcomers. Experienced students give tips and offer guidance, for example on finding accommodation in Berlin. A joint picnic is also part of the program. The Technical University (TU) currently has almost 29,000 students, explained a spokeswoman. If you include doctoral students and students taking part in special programs or who are guest and part-time students, the figure is even higher at around 36,130.
According to a spokesperson, 200 people are starting a new course at the University of the Arts (UdK) this summer semester. From the coming winter semester, a new course will be offered in cooperation with the HU: the subject combination of fine arts and special education in the teacher training course. Around 4,100 students are currently enrolled at the UdK, including almost 1,370 international students. The UdK is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
