Castles, Palaces & Mansions
As the former Prussian capital and royal residential city, Berlin has a noble past that numerous castles still tell of today. more
Friedrichsfelde Palace is located in the heart of the Tierpark Berlin. The former Lustschloss is now a museum and exhibits collections of the Stadtmusem.
Friedrichsfelde Palace is located directly behind the entrance to the Tierpark Berlin. It was built in 1695 by the Dutch naval director Benjamin Raulé, presumably according to plans by the architect Johann Arnold Nering.
Three years later, the originally five-axle Lustschloss (pleasure palace) with garden became the property of the Elector, who gave it to Margrave Albrecht Friedrich von Brandenburg-Schwedt in 1717. During this time, Friedrichsfelde Palace was extended by three axes and given a Baroque balustrade. After changing hands several times, the palace finally came into the hands of the von Treskow family at the beginning of the 19th century. They ran a farm on the estate and had a garden designed by Peter Joseph Lenné in 1821.
The palace survived the Second World War relatively unscathed and was integrated into the Tierpark from 1955. Finally, the castle was renovated between 1970 and 1981. It has been part of the Tierpark since January 2009 and is run by the Förderverein vom Tierpark und Zoo e.V. (Friends of the Zoo). Various events and concerts are regularly held in the castle.
