When the architect Friedrich Wilhelm Diterich connected two residential buildings on the avenue Unter den Linden, the Prinzessinnenpalais (Princesses' Palace) was born.

In an exquisite location facing the avenue Unter den Linden, two residential buildings were erected in 1730, which were later connected to form a palace by the architect Friedrich Wilhelm Diterichs with a spacious central building. However, it was not until the beginning of the 19th century that the representative head building facing the magnificent boulevard was built. At this time, a connection was also created with the neighboring Kronprinzenpalais, which was the residence of the various members of the Prussian ruling family until the end of the monarchy in 1918.

From Prinzessinnenpalais to PalaisPopulaire

The Prinzessinnenpalais was used as a museum during the Third Reich, but was so badly damaged at the end of the Second World War that only the outer walls could be reconstructed. Today, various catering establishments are located in the palace. Deutsche Bank has been renting the building since 2017. Under the name PalaisPopulaire, Deutsche Bank shows exhibitions of international modern and contemporary art following extensive renovation work.
